Rider profile
Natnael Tesfatsion
Natnael Tesfatsion Ocbit was born in Asmara in May 1999 and raced for the Eritrean team EriTel before Dimension Data for Qhubeka brought him to Europe in 2019. He arrived with a reputation as a stage racer and confirmed it immediately: overall victory at the Tour du Rwanda in 2020 at twenty, with the young rider and African rider jerseys alongside it, then the same overall again in 2022 — back-to-back wins at the race that has long served as the proving ground for East African talent.
Two seasons with Androni Giocattoli–Sidermec took him to his Grand Tour debut at the 2021 Giro d’Italia, and in 2023 he stepped up to the WorldTour with Trek–Segafredo. He has ridden for Movistar Team since 2025.
The national road title came in 2024, the same season he finished second at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race — evidence of a rider who had grown from a pure stage racer into a one-day threat. In 2026 he won the Circuito de Getxo outright and took second overall at the Four Days of Dunkirk with a stage win, the most complete season of his career so far, and the form he carries to Montréal.
